Mondee, a travel technology company based in Austin, Texas, has unveiled Abhi, an artificial intelligence-powered planning assistant that claims to be the most powerful in the industry. The tool, which can generate a fully bookable travel itinerary within the Mondee Marketplace, combines several technologies such as generative AI, deep learning, computer vision, and a recommendation engine. It utilizes multiple AI engines including Google’s Bard, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and IBM’s Watson.
According to Mondee, Abhi can engage in meaningful conversations, understand complex queries, and offer comprehensive responses. The tool can also create personalized travel guides. During the virtual launch event, Mondee founder Prasad Gundumogula demonstrated Abhi’s capabilities by asking the chatbot to recommend the trendiest beach club in Greece for someone in their 30s who enjoys house music. Abhi immediately suggested Paradiso, a club on the island of Mykonos. When prompted for a full itinerary for a five-day trip to Mykonos, Abhi provided options for other attractions based on the traveler’s interests and presented a day-to-day plan, along with booking options for flights, hotels, and activities.
Gundumogula highlighted that Abhi can connect travelers with local experts to offer real-time guidance. For instance, if someone is planning an important event like a wedding in Paris, Abhi can assist in finding specialized experts on the ground or help in identifying the perfect venue in the city.
Called the most powerful and truly integrated AI travel planning assistant, Orestes Fintiklis, Mondee vice chairman, and chief corporate strategy and business development officer, stated that Abhi’s launch marks Mondee’s first-mover advantage in the AI travel platform space. He emphasized that Mondee’s unique ecosystem gives them an edge, with access to data from 50 million searches per day on their platform, along with over 65,000 travel experts already utilizing their platform. As a result, Mondee’s AI will continue to evolve, learn, and become increasingly powerful over time.
Despite not being a household name, Mondee’s technology is utilized by travel agents and over 100 million travelers who belong to membership clubs annually. The company’s global network encompasses more than 500 airline partners, over 1 million hotels and rentals, and 50-plus cruise lines, providing booking services for travel experts, influencers, and individuals.
