Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has spoken positively about the development of generative artificial intelligence (AI) models such as ChatGPT, suggesting they could help enhance inclusivity and lead to the creation of new job roles. While he acknowledged job roles would be replaced, Mr Wong claimed that the new AI technology would also create new roles. Addressing the Institute of Policy Studies’ 35th Anniversary Conference, Mr Wong explained more needs to be done by the government to help workers adjust to the new technologies. The conference hosted four panels, with Education Minister Chan Chun Sing suggesting generative AI could help to reshape how work is rewarded for hands-on work, in the care industry for instance, as human touch cannot be replaced. Inclusive implementation was also a topic raised by the audience, where chatbots like ChatGPT can stand the risk of becoming class-biased.
AI Models such as ChatGPT possesses immense potential for job creation and opportunities; however, the Government needs to aid workers to adapt: Lawrence Wong.
