AI Could Help Workers Save Hundreds of Hours, Says New Study
According to a recent study conducted by Visier, a workforce analytics and planning company, employees could potentially save up to 390 hours each year by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) tools. The research involved surveying 3,030 workers from over 250 companies in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada. The findings revealed that British employees who have already embraced AI tools are saving approximately 93 minutes every day.
However, the study also highlighted that more than half (56%) of the respondents believe their employers are not fully embracing or encouraging the use of AI productivity tools. This reluctance may stem from concerns about the potential replacement of current skills, leading to worries about job security and redundancies. These concerns are particularly significant as the UK government is currently working on regulations to protect workers in the face of technological advancements.
The study indicated that approximately two-thirds (67%) of employees consider the development of AI skills essential for their future career growth. However, it did not specify how many individuals are actively learning these skills. Many workers may feel unsure about where to begin as they navigate the rapidly evolving technology that has only recently emerged.
Despite the advertised benefits of AI, a significant portion (36%) of respondents believe that it may actually add to their work-related stress. Concerns about accuracy (37%) and data privacy (38%) were also prevalent among the respondents.
Fortunately, as time progresses, these issues are expected to improve. Companies such as OpenAI are continuously releasing more advanced models, and others, like Microsoft, are suggesting AI tools that prioritize data privacy within organizations. Additionally, the introduction of suitable regulation by the government will provide further protection and reassurance.
Nevertheless, emotions remain mixed surrounding AI. Only 40% of workers predict improvements in work-life balance, while others remain skeptical about the technology or their employers, who may assign additional tasks to fill the time saved using AI tools.
Ben Harris, the Visier EMEA North Director, believes that businesses have a vital role to play in supporting the government’s investments and measuring the success of AI adoption. Harris emphasizes the importance of business leaders identifying gaps in employee skills and providing training on emerging technologies like AI, among other considerations.
