Shake Shack, the fast food chain, is rolling out a new menu featuring plant-based food options developed with the help of artificial intelligence. This plant-based menu includes a Veggie Shack burger, dairy-free chocolate shake, and dairy-free frozen custard. These recipes were created with the AI program “Giuseppe” developed by the Jeff Bezos-backed food tech startup NotCo. Giuseppe works by analyzing the structure of animal food on a molecular level and attempting to replicate it with only plant-based ingredients. All these new menu items are available for purchase beginning this week.
NotCo, the food tech startup, is led by the ambitious CEO and co-founder Matias Muchnick. Since its creation, NotCo has developed its own line of products such as NotMilk, NotBurger, and NotChicken. NotCo and Shake Shack first partnered together in May 2022 to test the non-dairy milkshake and frozen custards options at 10 selected locations throughout the US. After the successful testing, this week Shake Shack has made these items available to the public.
This new plant-based menu is part of Shake Shack’s effort to provide its customers with more vegan-friendly options and an ever-changing menu. As the popularity of plant-based food continues to grow, Shake Shack has partnered with NotCo to create these unique and exciting menu items. In addition to the health benefits, these food items can also provide an improved flavor and texture as compared to their animal-based counterparts.
Shake Shack is just one of the many large companies to start incorporating plant-based options into their menu. With the help of NotCo’s AI program “Giuseppe,” Shake Shack was able to create these exciting plant-based food items that offer the same flavor, texture, nutrition and functionality as their animal-based counterparts. As the popularity of vegan and animal product-free diets continues to rise, Shake Shack and companies like it are positioning themselves to be part of the growing trend.
