The government of Andhra Pradesh is set to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) and related tools such as ChatGPT and machine learning into the state’s school curricula. The move comes as part of an extensive reform of the state’s education system. The School Education Department has issued a government order establishing a 13-member team led by Praveen Prakash, Principal Secretary, School Education to advise on next-generation education concepts and technologies for pupils in government schools. Following its recommendations, the state education team will begin teaching AI and machine learning to primary and secondary school students. The government of Andhra Pradesh introduced Digital media labs/information and communication Technology (ICT) across the state to provide digital education to low-income students. The use of AI tools in school curricula is expected to help pupils become more competitive globally by learning and adapting to these futuristic tools from a young age. Previously, the government of Andhra Pradesh implemented English as a medium of instruction in its 45,000-odd government schools and collaborated with Byjus to provide bilingual textbooks in science, social studies, and math. In addition, interactive flat panels (IFP) were introduced in high schools and smart TVs in primary schools to digitise educational instruction across the state.
