By analyzing vast amounts of data collected from control room calls spanning from February 2019 to February 2024, the AI model has identified patterns that indicate crime hotspots in Ahmedabad. This information enables the police to allocate resources more effectively, such as increasing patrols or enhancing technical surveillance measures.
For instance, the AI predicts a higher likelihood of two-wheeler thefts on Wednesday nights in Chandkheda and Friday nights in Khokhra. Similarly, cases of women being harassed are expected to spike on Saturday mornings in Shaherkotda, Saturday afternoons in Kagdapith, and Thursday afternoons in Naroda.
The AI model also highlights areas prone to chain snatching, illicit alcohol business, and other criminal activities, along with specific days and times when these offenses are more likely to occur. By proactively targeting these hotspots with increased police presence, CCTV cameras, and strategic patrolling, law enforcement aims to deter criminal behavior and ensure public safety.
While AI has proven to be a valuable tool in predicting and preventing crimes, there are occasional limitations due to the absence of human intervention in data mapping. Despite some inaccuracies, the use of predictive policing technology represents a significant step forward in crime prevention strategies and has the potential to reduce criminal incidents in Ahmedabad.
