Education ministers from 12 African countries are set to convene in Nairobi for the 6th Forum of the Partnership for Skills in Applied Sciences, Engineering, and Technology (PASET), with a focus on strengthening Africa’s workforce for modern industrial economies.
Scheduled to take place from April 23-25, 2024, the forum will bring together representatives from academia, industry, and governments across Africa to discuss the future of skills, education, and entrepreneurship on the continent. With a theme of Leveraging Technical, Vocational and Technical Training (TVET) in the knowledge and skills ecosystem for Africa’s industrialization, the conference will explore strategies for advancing Africa’s capabilities.
Key topics of discussion will include the role of African higher education in shaping the continent’s green economy and the future of work. With over 500 participants expected to attend, the conference aims to foster collaboration and innovation in preparing Africa’s youth for the evolving job market.
Organized in collaboration with the PASET Secretariat and the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), the event will showcase the experiences and expectations of PASET member countries in developing skills and preparing youth for employment opportunities. Scholars from the Regional Scholarship and Innovation Fund (RSIF) will demonstrate their work in areas such as food security, AI, climate change, and energy, highlighting the contributions of various sectors to Africa’s economic growth.
Since its inception in 2013, PASET has focused on bridging the skills gap in applied sciences, engineering, and technology to drive Africa’s socio-economic development. With 12 member countries currently participating in the program, PASET continues to be a catalyst for innovation and progress in key economic sectors.
As African governments work towards enhancing skills development and fostering economic transformation, the 6th PASET Forum serves as a platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing to build a brighter future for the continent. With a shared commitment to advancing science, technology, and innovation, African nations are poised to drive socio-economic growth and prosperity across the region.
