The Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) is an international association that works to foster collaboration and education in the world of film commissions. Earlier this month, the AFCI announced its new executive director and president, Jaclyn Philpott, whose goal is to maintain stability within the organization and look towards long-term planning for the future.
One of the first major initiatives of the AFCI under Philpott’s oversight is their upcoming AFCI Week, set to take place from the 27th to the 30th of March at the Sofitel Los Angeles in Beverly Hills.
The event will consist of panel topics such as virtual production, workforce development, navigating government relationships, marketing opportunities and even an interactive session called “How Would You Handle It” open exclusively to AFCI members.
Jaclyn Philpott, newly appointed executive director and president of the AFCI, plans to create an environment of collaboration that will grow through education programs and build a diverse network of members who are passionate and dedicated to the work. Philpott recently attributed the immense success of streamers to the growth of production, which helps to diversify local economies.
The event will also feature a panel about HBO’s hit series, The Last of Us, which will take place on the 28th of March. The panel, which is open to all AFCI attendees, will discuss details about how HBO and the film commission worked together on the series.
Jaclyn Philpott, with over 20 years of experience in the industry, seeks to bring fresh perspective to the organization as she researches various strategies for the future and looks for new ways to help film commissions succeed.
With the help of Philpott’s leadership and motivated members, the AFCI seeks to create a supportive and productive environment for members to gather with the goal of making film commissions even stronger in the coming years.
