Adobe Lightroom Adds AI-Powered Noise Reduction and Content Credentials Support

Date:

Adobe’s Lightroom photo-editior has recently added multiple new features to its innovative AI tech, Firefly. The update is filled with AI-related perks such as an AI-enhanced denoise feature, additional AI mask categories (including clothing and facial hair) to help with photo editing, and new portrait presets that utilize the masking features. There will also be 18 travel presets, black and white video presets, and other minor changes in the update for better workflow and more features.

The most significant feature of the update is the technology preview of Content Credentials in Lightroom. This new element brings to Lightroom for Mac and Windows, as well as Adobe Camera Raw, the ability to add attribution information and modify data related to one’s photos. Adobe first introduced its Content Authenticity Initiative in 2019, with Content Credentials launching in 2021, yet it was only available in Photoshop, Adobe Stock and Behance.

AI technology is a major trend in the world, so it is no surprise it has been easy to integrate into Lightroom. With this AI-enhanced denoise feature, anyone using a high-ISO RAW file will be able to easily improve the quality of the file without any details being lost. This feature was developed by a team who has worked on Adobe’s Raw Details and Super Resolution features prior, using millions of pairs of high-noise and low-noise image crops to train machine learning models in order to demosaic and denoise in a single step. It’s as simple as selecting the denoise feature in Lightroom, and adjusting the amount slider according to how the user would like the photo to look.
