The latest victim of deepfake technology in the entertainment industry is actor Ranveer Singh, following in the footsteps of Aamir Khan. A video circulating online purportedly shows Ranveer expressing his political views during a visit to Varanasi. However, it has been revealed that the audio was created using an artificial intelligence voice clone of the actor.
During his recent trip to Varanasi, Ranveer praised the city’s public infrastructure improvements and shared his experience of the divine atmosphere. In response to the deepfake video, Ranveer issued a warning on his Instagram Story, advising his followers to beware of deepfakes.
On the work front, Ranveer is set to reprise his role as Simmba in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming cop drama Singham Again, which also stars his wife Deepika Padukone, along with other Bollywood stars like Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. He is also slated to headline Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3, scheduled for release in 2025.
Farhan Akhtar, in announcing the film, praised Ranveer’s talent and versatility, urging fans to shower him with the same love they have shown to previous actors who portrayed the iconic character of Don. With Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan setting the bar high in their respective portrayals, the audience eagerly anticipates Ranveer’s interpretation in the new installment.
The emergence of deepfake technology poses a significant challenge, not only in the entertainment industry but also in broader society. As technology continues to advance, it becomes crucial for individuals to exercise caution and critical thinking when consuming digital content to discern between real and manipulated information.
