Plex, a media company, has now released its music player, Plexamp, to work with ChatGPT for playlist building. Plexamp is an incubated project of the company’s Labs division and with this latest update, comes the addition of a new feature dubbed “Sonic Sage” which is powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This feature will help users create unique playlists by scanning their music libraries and subscribing to their personal TIDAL account.
AI interfaces have been used by many companies recently to bring personalized music selections to its users. Spotify, for example, released an AI DJ within its streaming app to introduce and select music. There are also third-party apps like Petey that are utilizing ChatGPT to create Apple Music playlists.
At the moment, Plexamp will be the only application benefiting from this update, not the main Plex media player app. This desktop music player was first launched in 2017 and was designed similarly to Winamp, providing a classic music player experience with added visualizations for an elevated experience.
Plexamp is a subscriber-only service and is available for devices like iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Linux, and Headless. The app also allows for users to DJ, machine-learning sonic adventures, travel back in time to re-discover old songs and explore music from many different moods.
The addition of ChatGPT with the new Sonic Sage feature allows Plexamp to use natural language in order for users to request for specific and unique songs or genre’s. The added convenience of having a personalized playlist is great for users and with the subscription to TIDAL, they can have access to their favorite artists and libraries.
Plex is continuously pushing the envelope in pushing creative boundaries and adding new advancements to its music technology. With Sonic Sage, users can enjoy their favorite genres and artists without having to manually search for music.
In addition to Plexamp and other projects, Plex also offers its core media player app that allows users to access their personal media libraries as well as streaming services. While this main player will not get the Sonic Sage feature, they will still be able to enjoy content from the company’s ever-growing library.
