ChatGPT-Related Malware Increasing Rapidly

Meta, a social media platform owned by Facebook, has observed an increase in malicious activity which is being distributed through ChatGPT. This form of computer malware takes advantage of the public’s interest in the popular ChatGPT automated chatbot and has been likened to cryptocurrency scams.

Since March, the company has detected and blocked around 10 malware families and more than 1,000 malicious links designed to spread malicious software. It was further discovered that several of the malicious applications featured functioning ChatGPT technology, however included abusive files.

During a press briefing regarding the findings, Meta’s Chief Information Security Officer Guy Rosen equated ChatGPT malware to the popular cryptocurrency scams. Rosen noted that out of a “bad actor” perspective, “ChatGPT is the new crypto”. He also highlighted the potential of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, being used to facilitate online disinformation campaigns.

Regarding the company, Meta was founded in 2019 as a social media platform. Owned by Facebook, it’s growth over the past few years has been tremendous and is seen as a top competitor in the social media space.

He has dedicated his entire career to understanding and protecting user’s data from potential risks and attacks. His experience and expertise retains him as a respected figure in the security and technology fields.
