The Russian banking institution Sberbank recently released and tested the AI chatbot, GigaChat, to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. According to Cybernews, GigaChat is programmed to respond with more intelligence in Russian than in other languages and it is designed to answer questions, hold conversations, and write program code. At the present time, GigaChat is available to only a few users for testing and those who want to try it out can join the available closed Telegram Channel.
This announcement of GigaChat, follows the ban of ChatGPT in November last year by the Russian government due to their suspicions of criminal use and false information spreading. OpenAI, owned by Microsoft, also blocked the chatbot from its users in Russia.
Sberbank is a large state-owned bank in Russia that serves millions of customers throughout the country. Founded in 1990, the company is one of the largest banks in the world and its main purpose is to provide financial services and banking activities.
OpenAI, meanwhile, is a research laboratory dedicated to building safe and ethical artificial intelligence.
