Engineer Sacked by Google Argues that Bard Could Have Come First than ChatGPT

Date:

In the emerging world of chatbots, a new product has surfaced, claiming to possess features similar to Google’s ChatGPT. Developed by Google’s artificial intelligence team, the product was in development before ChatGPT was released. Blake Lemoine, an engineer from the same team, uncovered that the product was near the brink of launch in the Fall of 2022 and was not yet called Bard.

Google was very cautious about the safety of their product and kept making sure that the product does not involve gender, racial or political biases. The chatbot was due to launch before ChatGPT, which was released in November 2022. The launch of the product was put to a sheet after Lemoine raised safety-related alarms due to the company’s usage of LaMda, a powerful large language model (LLM). Google did not share the same opinion as Lemoine and subsequently sacked him.

With its headquarters located in Mountain View, California, Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1998. Primarily known as an online search engine, Google has transformed into one of the biggest technology companies with its vast array of services, such as Google Maps, YouTube, Google Web and Mobile Applications and more.

Blake Lemoine is a former engineer at Google, who had previously worked as a Software Engineer at Google prior to joining the Artificial Intelligence team. Before joining Google, Lemoine was a software engineer at Qualcomm. He was also an independent consultant and a Front-end engineer. Lemoine’s work at Google revolved around Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, with a focus on developing low-level components such as LLMs, neural networks and machine learning algorithms.
