OpenAI Lifts Ban on ChatGPT in Italy

Date:

In March of this year, Italy became one of the first countries to put a ban on the popular chatbot ChatGPT. With the help of guidelines from the OpenAI team, the Italian authorities lifted the ban and now ChatGPT is once again accessible in Italy. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared the good news in a tweet.

The Guarantor For The Protection of Personal Data (GDPP) in Italy issued a release citing the technological growth and respect of people’s rights, and they hope that this continues in the future. In order to keep their customers updated, OpenAI published their new data policy on their website, as they look to create more transparency as they process user data. Each user in Europe and in the rest of the world will now be able to access the right to object to the processing of personal data, along with a form that can be filled out and submitted online.

Those trying to access ChatGPT in Italy will now see a special welcome screen, with a new privacy policy and details on processing personal data for algorithms. All users have the right to object to their data being processed, apart from those mentioned in the contract and OpenAI will work to ensure the proper functioning of the service.
