Increased Transparency and User Rights from ChatGPT: A Watchdog’s Guide

Date:

OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has agreed to increase transparency and user rights after facing legal repercussions for collecting user data without permission. Italy’s privacy watchdog noted that OpenAI has taken steps to meet the expectations outlined in its April 11 order, such as providing additional information to European and non-European users, making changes to the user agreement, and recognizing user’s rights to exercise their rights. As such, the ban on ChatGPT has been lifted in Italy.

OpenAI is a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence research laboratory founded in December 2015. It aims to boldly advance artificial general intelligence (AGI) and broadly improve the safety and reliability of machine learning. It has a research team of some of the world’s leading AI experts and has deep ties with the most influential research institutions, universities, and businesses around the world.

The CEO of OpenAI is Sam Altman, an American entrepreneur who is known for his work in the technology industry. He previously served as the President of Y Combinator, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that focuses on providing resources and guidance to startups. Altman is a strong advocate for Artificial Intelligence safety, touting it as the most important challenge facing humanity in the 21st century. As such, he has made OpenAI’s top priority to ensure that machine learning operations are conducted safely.
