Recently, Huawei Central discovered that the Chinese tech giant has applied for a trademark patent for “Huawei NetGPT”. This falls within Class 9, a category that includes scientific instruments, and the application is still pending.
However, since the trademark filing does not provide any more details, nothing more is known about Huawei’s in-house chatbot. In the past, the firm has mentioned that it would rather build its own AI technology instead of integrating ChatGPT into its products, which could justify this discovery.
Other tech giants are also catching on the trend. Companies like Baidu recently released “Ernie Bot”, and Alibaba is testing out its version called “Tongyi Qianwen”. Twitter founder Elon Musk is reported to be developing “TruthGPT”, a chatbot focused on political topics.
Meanwhile, some governments have voiced their worries regarding this generative technology, including Italy, China, and France.
