New Jersey Legislators Concerned About Increase in Deepfake Photography

Date:

Lawmakers in New Jersey are increasingly concerned about the emergence of deep-fake photographs and videos. To that end, there is an effort to pass a law which will criminalize the usage of technology to manipulate these photos. This bill was introduced by Senator Kristin M Corrado in Trenton and will prohibit the use of misleading or visually-altered media.

It is a concern how deep fake technology has been abused to embarrass or harass individuals or to portray them in a false light. It is even more concerning in the case of involving minors as this technology has the capability of creating realistic pornographic materials. The law proposes imprisonment up to 10 years and fine of up to $200,000 as punishment.

Kristin M Corrado is an American Politician who is a member of the New Jersey Senate. She was first introduced to politics when she served as a Wayne Township Councilwoman in 2007 and has since been serving in various roles. She is currently in the New Jersey Senate and was the 11th District’s Senate Majority Leader from 2018 to 2019. Along with her deep-fake bill, she has sponsored several other bills related to education, public safety, veterans, and job creation.
