OpenAI’s GPT-4’s promise has been a source of inspiration for the AI field. Right from the start, the team aimed to showcase their versatile language model by creating a website from scratch, just with a sketch. However, OpenAI has yet to release the capability. But now, Pico Apps’ MetaGPT is aiming to make those dreams a reality.
MetaGPT is a web application that allows users to create websites, applications, projects, and even a marriage proposal – all without writing a single line of code. All users have to do is provide a prompt, such as “an application that can write an op-ed”, and MetaGPT will do the rest of the work. It will generate the required text using its integration with ChatGPT and show a visual representation of the website. Users are also offered multiple options to iterate their prompts before going live with the new software.
What makes MetaGPT stand out from other no-code website-building platforms is its integration with ChatGPT. As GPT-4 based plugins are not yet available to all users due to waitlist problems, MetaGPT has shown how powerful the GPT-4 API can be with no special syntax or API call.
The idea of open-source projects making use of GPT-4 to create innovative applications has been growing since the early days of AutoGPT. BabyAGI, AgentGPT and MemeCam are just a few of the projects that have emerged, making use of the powerful language model. The success of these projects speak of a community hungry for innovation, and the desire to use GPT-4 on new use-cases that OpenAI’s team haven’t been able to catch up to.
Pico Apps is a small, Tokyo-based startup with a team of dedicated professionals, who have been at the forefront of open-source AI-related projects. Their latest project, MetaGPT, has proven to be a huge success and just goes to show how the open-source community can leverage the GPT-4 API to the fullest potential. As development of the GPT-4 API continues, more projects from Pico Apps and the greater community are sure to come.
