Akamai Launches Brand Protector to Combat Phishing and Fake Websites

Date:

Akamai Technologies recently announced the release of Brand Protector, a new solution to detect and disrupt phishing sites, fake stores, and brand impersonations. This solution works to help organizations protect customer loyalty while minimizing losses in productivity and customer feedback. Reports suggest that around 50,000 new phishing websites are created each week and Brand Protector is designed to protect against such occurrences.

Brand Protector uses intelligence gathered from analyzing trillions of digital activities daily in both external and internal sources to detect any unethical use of the brand name. This helps guard businesses from drop in revenue and other possible risks associated with the distribution of fake products, phishing sites, and illegal utilization of trademarked elements.

Brand Protector employs a four-step approach to combat fraudulent impersonations. It combines Akamai’s extensive edge and cloud platform with data from third party sources for a clear picture of malicious activities on the internet. It sifts through web traffic for indicators of brand abuse, often before the attack has launched. It shows a single dashboard to security teams for getting an insight into the threats. Lastly, integrated takedown services offer protection for curtailing brand fraud.

Rupesh Chokshi, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Application Security at Akamai commented on the launch, “Attackers are ever more misusing trusted brand names to fraud users through phishing and fake sites for achieving monetary gain. It is critical to pick up on these kinds of attack campaigns automatically and mitigate them right away to protect users and brand trust. This is exactly what the Brand Protector seeks to do.”
