Job Role Vulnerability from ChatGPT Exposed

Date:

ChatGPT is the latest technology breakthrough in artificial intelligence created by OpenAI, a Microsoft-backed tech firm. A study found that an astounding 80 per cent of US workers could see their jobs disrupted by this AI-powered chatbot. AI-powered chatbots can perform a wide range of tasks from writing essays to helping people apply for jobs, and many specialists are hailing it as one of the biggest advancements in modern technology.

OpenAI discovered that 19 percent of workers may be affected by ChatGPT to the extent that 50 percent of their tasks will be automated. Furthermore, jobs that involve performing a high number of software-related tasks, as well as higher-paying roles, may be more likely to face disruption. Certain professions, such as interpreters, translators, creative writers, journalists, blockchain engineers, mathematicians, and public relations specialists, were listed as those most likely to be impacted. Moreover, ChatGPT could be more disruptive for the publishing industries and data processing hosting, as opposed to industries that involve manual labour which would not be as heavily impacted.

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and renown tech expert, was left in shock as to how quickly OpenAI could train the chatbot to ace a difficult biology advanced placement test. This showed him that this technology had the potential to disrupt and change almost any part of our lives: work, health, communication, and travel.

OpenAI researchers published the paper “An Early Look at the Labor Market Impact Potential of Large Language Models” which can be found on their website and provides further insight into their study. Microsoft is the company backing OpenAI, a research lab and project composed of a team of world-renowned researchers and engineers. Founded in 2019 in San Francisco, OpenAI focuses on creating advanced artificial general intelligence (AGI) which is a machine capable of cognition and behavior that is equal to or greater than humans. Microsoft has been instrumental in the development of OpenAI and has invested more than $2 billion in the organisation. The paper it published was co-authored by 10 scientists and contains vital information about the potential disruption of ChatGPT on many jobs.
