The recently-released AI app update for iPhone, ChatGPT, is making it easy for users to generate their own music playlists within Apple Music. Developed by the talented Hidde van der Ploeg, this innovative app – which is compatible with both iPhone and Apple Watch – was unveiled in February and has become a popular way for users to access OpenAI’s tools without needing to sign up for an account. To use the app, all users have to do is download it for $4.99 / £4.99 and ask it some questions in the chatbot.
The latest 2.1 update has taken the app one step farther, allowing users to create their own virtual DJ’s within Apple Music. All musicians, from Cher to Westlife, are available for creating a dynamic playlist, meaning that users never have to worry about getting tired of Apple Music’s playlists. For example, users can simply tell Petey – the chatbot application – to generate a playlist of all the UK Number One hits from 1999 and it will immediately deliver a playlist with all the tracks!
Apple Music’s own virtual assistant – Siri – used to be able to answer questions regarding the Number One track, but since a few years ago it no longer offers this service. Now, with Petey and ChatGPT, this functionality is available once again – proving the superiority of the AI technology.
Hidde van der Ploeg, the developer of Petey, has expressed high hopes for the ChatGPT service in the years to come, particularly at WWDC 2023. Moreover, with each update of the AI app, it becomes more and more irrelevant compared to the other virtual assistants, making it increasingly fun to use.
Not only does the new version of Petey allow users to customize their music playlists, but it is also capable of doing much more. If someone’s having a house party, for example, Petey can help create the perfect playlist for the evening in minutes – and do this for a variety of different music outlets and streaming platforms such as Spotify. This AI technology is proving to be extremely useful and further developments and updates will only see it rise to even higher standards.
