ChatGPT: Good News for the Office

Date:

ChatGPT, a computer code automator, is an exciting new development in the tech world. This advanced software can efficiently rearrange tasks once completed manually, helping people to get back to the more stimulating, creative and human aspects of their work. Studies have been conducted to further prove ChatGPT’s ability to help complete jobs faster and consider even the “low-ability worker”, meaning those with weaker skills are able to complete tasks as efficiently as those more experienced. On top of that, it can even help with coding and tracking orders and deliveries in Excel, freeing people up to use their problem-solving skills in the more difficult aspects of their job.

MIT researchers conducted an experiment with 444 professionals with the goal of determining how ChatGPT could help with a “midlevel professional writing task” like drafting news releases or emails. Those who had access to the software reported taking less time and enjoying the task more, which is particularly promising as ChatGPT technology continues to evolve.

The potential increase in productivity from ChatGPT technology is huge. It allows employees to do what was once impossible, such as writing complex code for data analysis, in a fraction of the time. Companies that commit to encouraging their workers to embrace automation will see the benefits; their employees can move from completing mundane, repetitive tasks, to unlocking their creative potential and accessing higher paid activities.

Louise Hyman, historian and author of the book ‘Temp: How American Work, American Business and the American Dream Became Temporary’, believes that the arrival of ChatGPT is changing the way we work. This technology has the potential to revolutionise the workforce, so companies of all sizes should consider embracing everyday automation to bring out the best in their employees and unlock their full potential. By encouraging staff to solve more difficult problems, companies will benefit from increased productivity, reduced costs, and employee satisfaction.
