Odisha Becomes a Global Skilling Hub – Latest Business News

The Odisha Skill Conclave 2023, inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday, came to a successful close today. The Chief Minister, in his inaugural address, appealed to the centre and states to collaborate in upskilling the youths through new-age technologies such as cloud computing, AI and data sciences during his address. In addition to that, Odisha has dedicated a budget of Rs. 100 crores for the Nua Odisha scheme, an initiative to train the youths in futuristic knowledge.

Also, Odisha has launched Mission Shakti to support the transformation and entrepreneurship journey of 70 lakhs women. Patnaik also spoke about how the country is witnessing significant transformation and how the job markets are undergoing tremendous changes, making it essential for the younger generation to equip themselves with the skilling essential for their success in the 21st century.

At the Conclave, Pritiranjan Gharai, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Skill Development & Technical Education Department, Government of Odisha noted that the State is highly eager to partner with organisations in order to adopt modern and future technologies. This speaks to the strides made by the state in terms of skilling, so much so that the Government of Odisha has taken several proactive steps in this direction.

The 3-day Conclave saw participation from 2000 students, 360 teachers, 60 role models, 25 students from Singapore and 100 esteemed dignitaries including speakers from different sectors such as oil and gas, technology, infrastructure, and education. During the event, 24 MoUs were inked between the Government of Odisha and renowned organisations such as ITE Education Services- Singapore, Schneider Electric Foundation, Philips Machine Tools, Mitutoyo South Asia, Drone Federation of India, Festo, Coursera, ISB among others. A few key topics discussed during the event included diversity and inclusion, sector specific skilling, internships and apprenticeships and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics. Meanwhile, corporate representatives from TATA, Larsen & Tubro, Bharat Petroleum, Schindler, Maruti Suzuki brought to light the aspects necessary for gaining employability for those with expertise. Patha Pranta Utsav was held near Exhibition Ground, Bhubaneswar as part of the Conclave.
