Google for Startups has recently unveiled plans to establish an ‘AI Academy’ in Pakistan and across the Asia Pacific region. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the Google Chrome Book project, with more projects to follow suit.
The primary goal of the ‘AI Academy’ in Pakistan is to foster the growth of Artificial Intelligence by forging new partnerships through the Special Investment Facilitation Council. By facilitating the exchange of innovative ideas and resources, these startups aim to position Pakistan as a leading global hub for AI development in the Asia-Pacific region.
In a separate development earlier this week, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced 1,000 Google scholarships for students from 10 public universities. Emphasizing the importance of embracing Information Technology (IT) to secure employment opportunities in today’s digital landscape, the Chief Minister highlighted the diverse range of skills available in the IT sector.
During a meeting preceding the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tech Valley and 10 public sector universities, CM Murad underscored the significance of equipping youth with skills in e-marketing, AI, animation, web design, and other technological domains. These competencies, he noted, would enable individuals to be self-reliant and competitive in the global market.
Furthermore, Tech Valley, in collaboration with the Education Department, has rolled out Google Chromebooks across educational institutions in Sindh. This initiative aims to enhance the learning experience by leveraging the lightweight design, extended battery life, and user-friendly management features of Chromebooks.
The establishment of the ‘AI Academy’ and the introduction of Google scholarships underscore Google’s commitment to fostering innovation and skills development in Pakistan’s tech ecosystem. With these initiatives, Pakistan is poised to emerge as a key player in the field of Artificial Intelligence, paving the way for economic growth and technological advancement in the region.
