Amazon to Invest 10 Billion Euros in Germany, Creating 4,000 Jobs

Date:

Amazon has revealed plans to inject a further 10 billion euros into the German economy, setting the stage for ambitious investments in the country. The tech giant is earmarking approximately 8.8 billion euros for bolstering its cloud infrastructure through Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Frankfurt by 2026, while allocating 1.2 billion euros towards enhancing logistics, robotics, and company headquarters.

This move comes on the heels of an earlier announcement in May, where Amazon declared intentions to invest 7.8 billion euros for the establishment of the AWS European Sovereign Cloud in Brandenburg by 2040. The expansion plans include the creation of 4,000 jobs through the launch of three new logistics hubs in Horn-Bad Meinberg, Erfurt, and Großenkneten.

The Amazon logistics landscape in Germany will witness substantial growth with the addition of new company headquarters in Munich and Berlin, alongside the expansion of the research and development center in the latter city. Amazon’s footprint in the German market has already surpassed 77 billion euros since 2010, with the company maintaining a network of around one hundred locations across the country.

Furthermore, Amazon aims to cultivate a sovereign Euro Cloud to cater to public authorities and regulated entities seeking compliant cloud solutions. This initiative is designed to address the needs of operators of critical infrastructures (KRITIS) and provide a secure and reliable cloud environment that meets regulatory requirements. Amazon ensures that all data and metadata will be retained within Europe and that the operating infrastructure will adhere to stringent security protocols.

The foray into the sovereign Euro Cloud underscores Amazon’s commitment to offering tailored solutions for customers in Europe, while aligning with local regulations and data protection mandates. The strategic investments in Germany signal Amazon’s strategic foresight and proactive approach towards expanding its presence in key markets, further solidifying its position as a leader in cloud computing and logistics technology.
