Google Translate has recently expanded its language offerings to include five more Philippine dialects. In addition to Cebuano, Ilocano, and Filipino (Tagalog), users can now access translations in Bicolano (Bikol), Hiligaynon (Ilonggo), Kapampangan, Pangasinan, and Waray.

These new additions bring the total number of languages available on Google Translate to 115, joining a diverse range of dialects from around the world. The platform’s expansion aims to cater to a larger audience and make translation services more accessible to a wider population.

With the addition of these Philippine languages, Google Translate now covers over 614 million speakers, representing approximately 8 percent of the global population. The platform’s use of artificial intelligence, particularly the PaLM 2 large language model, enables efficient translation of closely related languages, enhancing user experience and language support.

In a statement, Google emphasized the importance of continually expanding language offerings to meet the diverse needs of its users. The inclusion of major world languages with millions of speakers reflects Google’s commitment to providing inclusive and comprehensive translation services on its platform.

The addition of Bicolano, Hiligaynon, Kapampangan, Pangasinan, and Waray to Google Translate highlights the platform’s dedication to promoting linguistic diversity and facilitating communication across different cultures and regions. Users can now enjoy seamless translations in these Philippine dialects, further enhancing their overall experience with Google Translate.
