Google to Launch Teen-Friendly AI Chatbot Gemini for Students Worldwide

Date:

Google is expanding its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Gemini to teen students in over 100 countries. This move enables students to access the AI capabilities of Google’s large language model (LLM). The company has introduced several safety measures to protect underage users from harmful content while using Gemini.

Gemini chatbot will be available to students in the coming months through Google Workspace for Education accounts. This feature is free for students using their Education account and will initially be accessible in English.

To ensure a safe experience, Google has implemented enhanced admin controls to activate Gemini for teenagers. The chatbot will filter out inappropriate content and provide guardrails to prevent inappropriate responses. An AI Literacy video has been added to assist students in understanding Gemini and its purpose.

In addition to the chatbot, Google has introduced a Learning Coach feature powered by LearnLM to help students study effectively. The company has also launched Read Along in Google Classroom globally to support students in developing reading skills. Furthermore, Google plans to introduce Google Vids, a video creation platform, to Google Workspace Education Plus accounts.

Gemini AI will be available to students above the age of 13 in India and the US, enrolled in institutions with access to Google Workspace for Education. Eligible countries can check the minimum age requirement to use Gemini. Overall, Google’s expansion of Gemini to teen students aims to provide a safe and assistive learning tool for educational institutions worldwide.
