Turkish artificial intelligence (AI) startups are poised for significant growth, according to Türkiye’s vice president, Cevdet Yilmaz. Speaking at the AI Tomorrow Summit organized by the Artificial Intelligence Policies Association (AIPA), Yilmaz mentioned that there are currently over 700 AI startups in Türkiye.
Yilmaz highlighted the rapid advancements in AI on a global scale, emphasizing its transformative impact across various sectors of society. Studies indicate that AI is projected to contribute around $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, with a substantial portion stemming from productivity and consumption.
Acknowledging the fundamental role of robust AI policies, Yilmaz underlined the importance of data privacy and cybersecurity to ensure the safety of users. He noted the challenges in protecting data privacy and ethical data processing due to the data-driven nature of AI.
In Türkiye, there is a growing focus on AI education and research. Yilmaz mentioned the presence of over 40 AI-focused master’s and doctoral programs, as well as AI research centers in more than 30 universities. The Ministry of National Education has updated the curriculum to incorporate AI topics at all levels of public education.
Moreover, Türkiye is actively fostering collaboration between students, the private sector, and academia in the field of AI. Initiatives such as AI workshops in all provinces, AI-related university clubs, and AI-focused studies supported by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TUBITAK) demonstrate the country’s commitment to AI development.
As AI continues to reshape the global economy and job market, Türkiye’s strategic focus on AI education, research, and policy frameworks positions the country for sustained growth and innovation in the AI sector.
