During a fireside chat between Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and DreamBox Learning CEO Jessie Woolley-Wilson, the duo discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) is being used in various areas. Gates had an interesting challenge that he posed to AI-powered chatbot, ChatGPT from the Microsoft-backed OpenAI. He asked them to be able to pass the AP Biology exam. Much to Gates’ surprise, ChatGPT was able to do it with flying colours by ‘blowing the questions away’.
OpenAI is a company co-founded by Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk in 2015. The pair have had a rocky relationship due to Musk’s concerns about the rapid advances of AI, going as far as to insult Gates’ ability in AI mastery. Gates talked about the potential disruptiveness of ChatGPT being comparable to the impact of the Internet. In August last year, Gates was the first person outside of OpenAI to meet the GPT-4 tech, organising a dinner with the OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, Brockman and other key players in the company.
