Apple to Unveil AI-Powered Software Updates at WWDC Event

Date:

Apple may incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) features into Siri with the upcoming iOS 18 update, as reported by Lowyat.NET. The tech giant is expected to showcase its AI advancements for consumers during the WWDC event starting on 10 June. This focus on AI will be reflected in Apple’s software offerings, including iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15.

According to sources cited by AppleInsider, Siri, Safari, and Spotlight Search are the first components to receive AI enhancements. Specifically, Siri and Safari will receive AI-powered text summarization capabilities. Safari will summarize web pages, while Siri will handle text conversations. These features will leverage Apple’s Ajax LLM technology, which is built upon Google’s JAX framework.

Apple’s approach to AI involves processing most features on-device, with certain more advanced functions requiring cloud-based processing through Ajax. Users will receive privacy warnings when cloud processing is necessary, particularly when accessing data from Safari or Messages. However, integration with Calendar and Contacts apps will also be implemented.

Apple is expected to provide more details on its AI strategy at the launch of the next iPad Air and iPad Pro models, rumored to be equipped with M4 chips. The accuracy of these reports will be confirmed during the WWDC event next month. This move signifies Apple’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI advancements into its software ecosystem, enhancing user experiences across its product lineup.
