Google Lays Off 200 Core Team Employees, Shifts Jobs to India and Mexico

Date:

Google has recently announced a significant reduction in its workforce, with at least 200 employees from its ‘Core’ teams being laid off. The tech giant is aiming to cut costs by moving some roles to locations in India and Mexico.

The Core unit at Google is responsible for developing the technical foundation for the company’s main products and ensuring the safety of users online. This unit also manages Google’s global IT infrastructure and provides internal tools and developer solutions.

In an email sent out by Asim Husain, the vice president of Google Developer Ecosystem, it was revealed that this layoff is the largest planned reduction for his team this year. The email emphasized Google’s intention to maintain a global presence while expanding in high-growth areas to operate closer to partners and developer communities.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has been streamlining its workforce since the beginning of the year. Layoffs have been announced in various departments, including Flutter, Dart, Python, real estate, finance, engineering, and hardware. The company’s focus is shifting towards enhancing its artificial intelligence capabilities.

The recent layoffs at Google signal a broader restructuring effort within the tech giant as it adapts to evolving market demands and seeks to optimize its operations for the future.
