Google’s latest AI Search experiment aims to help users refine their English skills in a more conversational manner. The new feature called Speaking Practice offers interactive exercises powered by generative AI to assist non-native English speakers in understanding how to use words in daily scenarios.
Accessible through the main Google app on Android, users can find the Speaking Practice feature by tapping the beaker (Labs icon). During practice sessions, users will encounter a microphone icon at the bottom of their display, allowing them to speak to the AI or deliver an answer. The AI also provides suggestions of words to use to help users provide context and continue the conversation.
The Speaking Practice test is currently available for users over the age of 18 in countries like Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela. Google plans to expand the feature to more regions over time.
This new AI experiment builds upon a previously launched English exercise tool in October, offering users the opportunity to practice their language skills through conversation simulations. Google continues to expand its AI capabilities, with Gemini receiving an update to make it more accessible on Android devices. The company teases additional Assistant-like features in the works for Gemini, further enhancing the user experience across various Google apps and services.
