Lenovo Expands AMD Partnership for AI Servers, HCI Devices

Date:

Lenovo and AMD have announced an expansion of their partnership to offer customers more options in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI). This collaboration aims to bring new servers and hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) devices specifically designed for AI tasks.

One of the key highlights is the introduction of the Lenovo ThinkSystem SR685a V3 server, which is powered by the latest generation AMD EPYC CPUs. This server is the first to incorporate AMD Instinct MI300X GPUs, making it ideal for demanding workloads such as large language model (LLM) training. The SR685a is designed to cater to both private data centers and public cloud environments.

In addition to the server, Lenovo has also unveiled the ThinkAgile MX455 V3 Edge Premier Solution, an HCI device optimized for AI computing and storage. This device is compatible with Azure Stack HCI, enabling seamless operations both on-premises and in the cloud. Lenovo has further expanded its AI infrastructure offerings with the introduction of the compact ThinkSystem SD535 V3 edge server, which uniquely combines both AMD and Intel architecture in a single chassis.

Lenovo’s move to expand its AI infrastructure offerings comes as it aims to compete with industry giants like Dell and HPE in the hybrid AI market. Analysts like Steven Dickens from Futurum Group believe that Lenovo holds a competitive edge due to its comprehensive end-to-end AI portfolio, ranging from rugged far-end devices to core infrastructure solutions.

With this expanded partnership with AMD and the introduction of cutting-edge AI infrastructure solutions, Lenovo is set to provide customers with a wide array of options to meet their AI needs efficiently and effectively.
