Bollywood Actor Khan Defamation Allegations Spark Police Investigation

Date:

Mumbai police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding a deepfake video featuring actor Aamir Khan endorsing the Congress political party, despite the actor’s denial of such claims. The complaint, filed by Khan’s legal team, asserts that the video is false and misleading.

The video, discovered on April 14 by Khan’s team, shows a manipulated likeness of the actor discussing financial well-being and urging viewers to support Congress over the Bharatiya Janata Party. The team clarified that Khan did not participate in the creation of the video, which appears to have been generated using artificial intelligence technology.

Claiming that the video misrepresents Khan’s political stance, his legal advisor, Huzvak Batliwala, stated that the actor neither supports nor opposes any specific political party. Consequently, the Khar police have invoked sections 419 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code, along with relevant clauses from the Information Technology Act, against the unknown individual responsible for disseminating the deepfake ad.

The police have also called upon the person who initially shared the video via the MiniforIYC account to provide a statement regarding the incident. This development underscores the growing concern over the misuse of deepfake technology for spreading false information and influencing public opinion.

The case reflects the challenges posed by modern technology in the realm of politics and media, emphasizing the importance of ensuring authenticity and accuracy in digital content. The investigation into the deepfake video involving Aamir Khan serves as a cautionary tale regarding the potential repercussions of deceptive practices in the digital age.
