OpenAI Collaborates with Atlassian to Boost Smart Collaboration Software

Date:

Scott Farquhar, co-founder and co-CEO of the software company Atlassian, recently addressed leaders at an Australian government jobs and skills summit aimed at resolving current economic and workforce issues. During his speech, he shared an exciting development: the software company plans to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology produced by startup OpenAI in order to make its collaboration software smarter.

OpenAI’s GPT-4 is a large language model which has been trained with comprehensive text sources from the internet and it enables Atlassian’s Jira Service Management to quickly process inquiries from employees on things like obtaining access to data. Confluence, another of Atlassian’s platforms, has been outfitted with a feature that permits users to click on unfamiliar terms to uncover explanations, with the help of automated answers based on data saved in documents.

Atlassian has utilized its own AI models for a few years, and by the start of 2023, it began implementing OpenAI. The combination of these models tailor the outcome for specific customers, who benefit from the utilization of Atlassian’s data. One of Atlassian’s biggest competitors, Microsoft, is a major financial backer of OpenAI, meaning cloud computing from Microsoft is being used. However, Farquhar has explained that OpenAI won’t be using customer data to train its models.

Dubbed Atlassian Intelligence, the features will be available in the near future only to those signed up on a waiting list with customer’s employer’s opting in and Microsoft’s GitHub code storage company recently tested AI-generated messages for pull requests (which Atlassian also offers in their product Bitbucket). The amount charged for Atlassian Intelligence is still being reviewed, as well as how much Atlassian will end up paying OpenAI.
