Elon Musk, the extravagant billionaire and CEO of Tesla, has declared a new venture, challenging the popular artificial intelligence chatbot Chat GPT. After an interview on FOX with the host Tucker Carlson, it was revealed that the business magnate suggests the chatbot has a politically-motivated approach, which can be problematic in many circumstances.
Although Musk’s involvement with artificial intelligence is not entirely unheard-of, it did not end well with Y Combinator CEO Sam Altman, who was a early investor in OpenAI; an artificial intelligence that was used to build Chat GPT. It was assumed to be due to a conflict of interest, since Musk was working on robotics with Tesla at the same time.
Taking it a step further, Elon Musk openly criticized the use of Chat GPT, referring to it as “woke AI”, saying it “lies” and holds the potential to be potentially damaging.
Elon Musk’s new “X” project is expected to incorporate a form of social media, mixing it with a financial system similar to WeChat, a Chinese company most popular for being one of the most influential social media networks in over the world. WeChat’s main advantage lies within its ability to allow its users to transfer money from one contact to another quickly and intuitively, something Musk hopes to make easier for consumers.
As part of his new project, Musk purchased 10,000 Graphics Processing Units to build language models, with the expectations of improving the accuracy and results of his upcoming AI chatbot. The tech entrepreneur’s approach is ambitious, as Artificial Intelligence is increasingly becoming a hot topic amongst the public, with the hope it might change the lives of many.
In addition to the acquisition of language models, Musk’s Twitter has become heavily involved in the financial space, having recently formed a partnership with the major stock and cryptocurrency trading platform eToro. This allows Twitter users to buy Bitcoin and Ethereum without leaving the platform, a revolutionary first that provides accessibility and convenience to users.
OpenAI is without a doubt an artificial intelligence giant, and there is no doubting their potential. However, with Musk’s ambitions of creating an AI platform that can potentially outperform Chat GPT on the topics of politics, it will be interesting to see what kind of project “X” turns out to be.
