Apple Harnesses Shutterstock Images to Boost AI in iOS 18 and macOS 15 Updates

Date:

Apple is reportedly investing up to $50 million in training its iPhone AI technology using Shutterstock’s vast collection of images, videos, and music files. This move comes ahead of the anticipated launch of iOS 18 and macOS 15 later this year, which are expected to feature significant AI advancements.

According to a recent report by Reuters, Apple, along with other tech companies, has struck deals with Shutterstock to leverage its extensive library for AI training purposes. The agreements are said to range from $25 million to $50 million per company, with smaller firms also participating in similar arrangements in recent months.

Shutterstock’s Chief Financial Officer Jarrod Yahes confirmed the partnerships but refrained from discussing individual contracts, including the one with Apple. These collaborations are seen as crucial for enhancing AI capabilities across various platforms, with Apple CEO Tim Cook previously hinting at significant AI developments by 2024.

The new AI functionalities are expected to benefit devices like the iPhone and Mac, with Apple likely to unveil the updates at the upcoming WWDC event in June. Following the announcement, developers can anticipate access to beta versions before the official release, which typically occurs in September as per Apple’s usual rollout schedule.

As Apple continues to prioritize AI innovation, these partnerships with Shutterstock and other companies mark a significant step towards enhancing the capabilities of its devices. The integration of advanced AI technologies is poised to redefine user experiences and elevate performance across Apple’s product ecosystem.
