The USAID Director, Kate Somvongsiri, recently met with leaders in Sindh to further shared development goals and initiatives. During her visit to Karachi, she engaged with provincial leadership, government officials, and development partners to strengthen USAID’s ongoing commitment to enhancing lives in Sindh.
Under the U.S.-Pakistan Green Alliance, USAID is collaborating with Pakistan to tackle environmental, climate, and economic challenges, with a focus on ensuring a sustainable future for generations. During discussions with Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, the importance of continued partnerships in areas such as health, education, and economic advancement was emphasized.
USAID’s long-standing collaboration with the Sindh government covers various sectors, including education, water and sanitation, health, nutrition, clean energy, food security, economic progress, and climate resilience. The visit also included a tour of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), where the Mission Director observed the impact of USAID-supported programs on maternal and newborn care.
Furthermore, the Mission Director met with female graduates who benefited from USAID scholarships at the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water, a joint initiative with Mehran University and the University of Utah. Additionally, discussions with a company specializing in agricultural artificial intelligence highlighted efforts to empower farmers in optimizing crop cycles, from seeding to harvesting.
Underlining USAID’s dedication to fostering partnerships with local organizations, there was dialogue with civil society representatives on key issues like human rights, access to justice, and information availability, with a specific emphasis on uplifting women, minorities, and marginalized communities. This comprehensive approach demonstrates USAID’s holistic commitment to sustainable development in Sindh.
