The Ministry of Education in collaboration with Microsoft has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the school curriculum. This milestone initiative aims to offer students above grade 8 the opportunity to explore the realm of AI within the Information Technology sector.
The pilot project is set to launch in 20 selected schools across 20 districts, ensuring the availability of conducive classrooms and necessary technical equipment. Microsoft will provide support through a dedicated team to facilitate online educational activities for the students.
President Ranil Wickremesinghe held discussions with Microsoft representatives at the President’s Office before the signing of the MoU. The representatives expressed their commitment to supporting the integration of AI into the educational framework, underscoring the importance of this initiative for the future of education in the country.
With this collaboration, students will have the chance to enhance their skills and knowledge in the field of AI, preparing them for the challenges of the digital age.
