As per CEO Matt George, the aviation sector faces a significant shortfall of 13,300 pilots by the year 2032. To address this looming challenge, Merlin Labs is working towards deploying artificial intelligence (AI) to replace one human pilot in cargo plane cockpits while enhancing the efficiency of the remaining pilots’ roles. Merlin Labs recently secured a Part 135 Air Operators Certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA), enabling the company to carry out essential data collection flights on designated regional freight routes.
