Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has recently established the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) faculty in the nation with a strong emphasis on human values. The Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI) received an initial allocation of RM20 million and has appointed renowned AI futurist Zack Kass as the FAI Adjunct Professor to contribute his expertise in integrating human values into the AI curriculum.
According to a press conference held at UTM Kuala Lumpur, ethical values are deemed crucial in the realm of technology as the absence of ethics can potentially lead to issues within the country. The FAI aims to incorporate human values throughout the curriculum not only for the faculty members but also for all individuals associated with UTM.
In addition to the establishment of the FAI, UTM has been tasked with spearheading the Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Consortium research program. This program brings together various public universities and key industry players in the technology research sector in Malaysia.
The integration of human values in AI education reflects UTM’s commitment to nurturing a new generation of technologists who prioritize ethics and societal impact in their work. This initiative is set to pave the way for responsible AI development and deployment in the country, ensuring that progress is made in tandem with upholding human values.
