Paytm FASTag Users Beware: RBI Deadline Looms, Alternatives Needed

Date:

Paytm FASTag users may face disruptions in service after March 15, as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has intervened due to non-compliance issues. The RBI’s directive impacts Paytm Payments Bank, leading to restrictions on FASTag top-ups, deposits, and credit transactions after February 29. The deadline has been extended to March 15 for the company to address the compliance concerns, with the RBI emphasizing larger public interest.

Reports indicate that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has removed Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) from its list of authorized FASTag providers. This exclusion could prevent users from adding funds to their Paytm FASTag accounts in the future. However, existing Paytm FASTags are expected to remain operable until the balance is depleted.

In light of the potential service interruption, users are advised to deactivate their Paytm FASTag accounts once the balance is exhausted. This process can be initiated through the Paytm app by accessing the ‘Help and Support’ section and selecting the ‘FASTag’ option under ‘Banking Services & Payments.’ Alternatively, users can contact Paytm’s customer care team with their registered mobile number or FASTag ID to request account deactivation.

After deactivating their Paytm FASTag, customers can obtain a new FASTag from an authorized bank listed by NHAI or through the NHAI website. The activation of the new FASTag can be completed by downloading the ‘My FASTag’ app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and following the provided instructions to link it to their vehicle.

As the March 15 deadline approaches, Paytm FASTag users are encouraged to take proactive steps to mitigate potential disruptions in their toll payment services. By following the outlined deactivation and replacement process, users can ensure seamless continuity in their FASTag usage without undue inconvenience.
