Elon Musk, the CEO of leading tech giant Tesla and founder of publicly traded firm SpaceX, has recently revealed his plans to develop a new artificial intelligence project. Dubbed as “TruthGPT,” the project is expected to act as a ChatGPT alternative and will focus on creating a maximum truth-seeking AI.
In an interview with Fox News, Musk stressed that an alternative approach to AI creation is needed in order to avoid humanity’s destruction. He explained that a truth-seeking AI would be less prone to wanting to annihilate humans, due to our species’ interesting place in the universe. With that in mind, Musk founded X.AI – a Nevada and Texas-incorporated company that promotes the development of AI in the modern ‘ChatGPT’ era. Interestingly, Musk is the only listed director of the company.
The idea for the company and for TruthGPT was first mentioned by Musk on his Twitter account in February. Since then, ChatGPT and GPT-4 – two forms of AI – have seen rising popularity worldwide. In response to this, a few notable figures, including Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, have written an open letter asking AI labs around the world to pause their work that is more powerful than GPT-4 for a period of at least six months.
X.AI stands as an alternative and pioneer in the application of artificial intelligence. The company focuses on developing a ‘maximum truth-seeking AI’ as per Musk’s vision and – with his considerable backing – it is expected to be somewhat successful. Through the use of this platform, Musk and his team hope to create products of a similar quality to those created by OpenAI – a Microsoft-backed firm. As the ongoing trend of AI continues, we can look forward to the potential ways in which TruthGPT and X.AI will advance the conversation about AI’s capabilities and its applications for the world.
