Microsoft Developing AI Chip for ChatGPT: Report

Microsoft is reportedly developing its own chipset that is specifically designed to power its own ChatGPT system. This news follows the company’s launch of its secretive hardware project in 2019. The new chips will be designed to reduce the Redmond tech titan’s reliance on the costly Nvidia GPUs, which can cost up to $40,000 when found from reseller services.

This development of their own chipsets is seen in other major tech companies such as Google, Meta, and Amazon, which are all using AI chips for machine learning systems. The chips are supposedly codenamed “Athena” and it has been reported that the chips are being tested by Microsoft’s machine learning staff and OpenAI’s developers.

Notably, recent events in the AI sector include Amazon’s rollout of their own Bedrock-AI Infrastructure which includes their first self-developed algorithms to go along with it. Furthermore, tech mogul and the world’s richest person Elon Musk recently announced TruthGPT, a supposed “truth-seeking” large language model designed to combat ChatGPT’s alleged bias.
