Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral part of the technology sphere with advancements being made every day. OpenAI’s ChatGPT created a splash late last year and since then AI has shown no sign of stopping. Auto-GPT, building upon the GPT-4 technology of ChatGPT, is the newest craze in the AI world. This AI provides the user with a task list of what it believes is needed to be accomplished after one prompt. People are able to use this AI to generate files, retrieve data from the internet, manage long and short-term memory, and generate summarizations. The AI is versatile and has a lot of moving parts, contributing to its impressive capabilities.
Significant Gravitas is responsible for the development of Auto-GPT. On the open platform, Creative Workspace, users can take a look at how it works, where they showcased an example of how it can be used. They asked the AI to research itself, and it took the initiative to open Google and search its GitHub page, analyzing and compiling the data into a text file. Auto-GPT can be applied in practical ways such as researching the best available headphones with price, pros, and cons. Sully Omar provided another demonstration by tasking the AI with researching waterproof shoes and providing the top five competitors.
The general public has access to Auto-GPT as well and doesn’t need to code to get started, though it helps. Those interested need Windows, an OpenAI API key, a text editor, Git or the latest stable release of Auto-GPT and Python. Alternatively, there are on the internet web interfaces to test out Auto-GPT with an OpenAI API key. NVIDIA AI scientist Jim Fan highlighted that it is still a prototype, but the notion of what Auto-GPT may be is a breakthrough—you give one prompt to the AI and it can take on the full responsibility to finish the task. While it is still very much in its early stages, the AI endeavors to constantly improve itself and get closer to the goal of becoming a true Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

The website also highlights the importance of token usage when using an OpenAI API key to avoid any potential costliness. The founder of Auto-GPT, Toran Bruce Richards, is an experienced coder in the space, having worked previously in Hibu and Zocolo. His current project makes a major contribution to the strides made in AI and the user experience of interacting with the technology.
