Campaign Says Texas GOP Congresswoman Who Raised Funds With George Santos Was Denied Money Due to Her

Date:

Texas GOP Rep. Beth Van Duyne has yet to receive any money from a joint fundraising committee with Rep. George Santos ahead of the 2022 midterm elections, according to a report from the Dallas Morning News. The pair had raised a total of $11,600 in August 2022, after fees and other expenses, paid $4,783.33 each to Van Duyne’s and Santos’s campaign committees, records from the Federal Election Commission show.

As a consequence of news reports revealing fraudulent information provided by Santos on the campaign trail, such as false claims made about education, his faith and employment, a spokesperson for Van Duyne’s campaign, Chris Homan, told the Dallas Morning News, “The Beth Van Duyne campaign did not receive a distribution of funds following the New York trip.”

In early 2023, Santos apologised for the lies and misinformation he had shared with the public, and recently announced his intentions to run for a second term. Despite this announcement, the financial records reported in the first quarter of the same year showed that his campaign has been refunding more money than it received. Furthermore, after an investigation by the House Ethics Committee, Santos has been removed from all his committee assignments.

Goldman Sachs and Citigroup have never had a record of Santos working in their group, and alongside Baruch College and NYU, also deny him ever attending their institutions.

Van Duyne has coined a name for herself due to her conservative stances on guns, vaccines, and abortion, receiving support from GOP donors. However, it is unlikely that the two will team up to fundraise again with their joint fundraising committee.
