Los Angeles-based video game developer Space Nation will be utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to create personalized stories for players in its upcoming flagship game, Space Nation Online. The company released its roadmap for the game, stating that the use of generative AI will allow for a unique and tailored experience for each player.
The founders of Space Nation, Jerome Wu and Tony Tang, both industry veterans, established the company in 2019. They have garnered support from renowned filmmaker Roland Emmerich, known for movies like Stargate, 2012, and Independence Day, as well as media entrepreneur Marco Weber.
Wu, who serves as the co-founder and CEO of Space Nation, expressed his excitement about the integration of AI into the game. He believes that it will revolutionize how personal narratives unfold within the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) universe. According to Wu, creating individualized stories that adapt as players progress would be impossible with an all-human writing team.
Although Space Nation did not provide specific details about the AI model it will be using, the company assures players that its large language model utilizes ethically sourced training data. However, major plot elements will still be created by a team of dedicated human writers.
In addition to the personalized AI experience, Space Nation Online will feature a crew system mechanic. This mechanic allows players to manage a team of characters with unique skills, traits, and roles. Over time, these crew members will evolve and grow based on their experiences in the game, offering players the opportunity to develop their individual stories and skills through various missions.
Space Nation is also incorporating a Web3 element into the game. Each crew member that players acquire during gameplay will be linked to a player-owned digital asset or non-fungible token (NFT). Furthermore, community members can expect additional benefits such as airdrops.
The developers of Space Nation Online are set to begin testing the AI integration on Discord this month in preparation for a beta launch in March. The official launch of the game is scheduled for fall 2024. With its sophisticated Web3-based token economy and AI components, Space Nation aims to deliver a gaming experience like no other.
By leveraging AI to craft personalized stories and incorporating a crew system mechanic and Web3 elements, Space Nation Online intends to provide players with a truly engaging and individualized gaming journey.
