OpenAI Fixes ChatGPT’s ‘Laziness’ Issue: Improved Performance and Updates Coming Soon

Date:

OpenAI Announces Fix for ChatGPT’s Laziness Issue

OpenAI has unveiled an update to address the perceived laziness of its language model ChatGPT. The company recently acknowledged complaints from users who found that ChatGPT was providing less thorough and effective responses, occasionally failing to complete tasks. OpenAI attributed this issue to the model sharing degraded responses over time, an observation made as far back as six months ago.

While the specific updates to GPT-4, which currently powers ChatGPT, were not mentioned in the announcement, OpenAI did introduce GPT-4 Turbo, its most advanced language model. GPT-4 Turbo, available for limited preview via the API, is expected to alleviate the same issues faced by ChatGPT. OpenAI’s aim is to eventually roll out the fix to ChatGPT.

In a blog post, OpenAI explained that GPT-4 Turbo improves the completion of tasks such as code generation, aiming to reduce instances of laziness where the model fails to finish a given request. Initially unveiled at OpenAI’s developer conference in November, GPT-4 Turbo boasts an expanded context window and more up-to-date information, enabling it to process a greater volume of data from a single prompt.

As of now, users can access a preview model of the updated GPT-4 Turbo. OpenAI’s commitment to resolving the laziness issue and the introduction of a more advanced language model demonstrate the company’s dedication to improving the user experience of ChatGPT.
