Google is set to introduce new AI-powered features in its popular web browser, Google Chrome, which could potentially replace the need for ChatGPT, a platform that assists users in drafting content. The upcoming Chrome release will include a Help me Write feature that will allow users to access AI-generated writing suggestions by right-clicking on any text box. Whether it’s writing a restaurant review, RSVP, or rental inquiry, Google’s AI aims to provide assistance in crafting well-articulated content.
Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, believes that these generative AI features integrated into Google Chrome will make web browsing and writing tasks easier and faster. With over 3.22 billion internet users currently using Chrome, compared to only 100 million ChatGPT users, this move by Google seems strategic. Google is not only focusing on text generation but also advancing multimodality with the introduction of Lumiere. This text-to-video diffusion model enables users to create realistic and coherent motion videos. Unlike existing models, Lumiere can generate entire videos in a single consistent pass.
While OpenAI, a competitor of Google, does not currently have a publicly available video generation model, they are actively researching and developing technology in this area, possibly hinting at the release of GPT-5.
In 2024, several companies, including Google, are expected to match the capabilities of OpenAI’s GPT-4. However, OpenAI’s future models and developments remain highly anticipated in the industry.
